COLTON>> Spots are available for golfers looking for a fun day to support scholarships for students of the Colton Joint Unified School District. The APPLE Scholarship Foundation will hold its 12th Annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, April 8 at Shandin Hills Golf Club in San Bernardino. "The event was created as a way to bring together employees and community partners in support for the children in our school district," said Katie Orloff, Communications Manager at Colton Joint Unified School District. District employees formed the foundation more than 15 years ago with the goal of helping graduates of CJUSD and the children of employees pursue their dreams of further education. Since its first scholarship awards in 2002, it has awarded more than $345,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors. The tournament is scheduled for a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Registration is $80 for a single golfer or $300 for a group of four. Entry includes 18 holes of golf, a cart and the awards luncheon. All proceeds fund scholarships for district students. The game will be played in a scramble format. In foursomes, each player will hit the ball toward the hole; the player with the closest ball to the hole will be the starting point for the rest of the team in their next shot. The team with the lowest score will receive trophies, while those with the highest will receive bobbleheads. Applications for the APPLE Scholarship foundation are now open till Sunday, April 16 for all senior students in the CJUSD. For those interested in becoming a sponsor, donations may be tax deductible.
