COLTON >> The Colton At Risk Teens (CART) Academy, a regional paramilitary academy designed to redirect negative behavior in juveniles is moving forward. CART has graduated over 120 youths. The program is a collaborative effort that includes over 18 agencies including Summit College, Loma Linda Hospital, Center of Employment Training in Colton, and many more. In recognition of Earth Day, the CART Academy class 2016-1 picked up trash on Colton bike trail from E Street to the City of San Bernardino City Limits filling 12 bags of trash and removing vehicle tires and other large objects. Saturday April 30, the CART Academy recruits will compete against Rialto Police's Pride Platoon in the 2nd Annual Earp Challenge, hosted at the City of Rialto. The Earp Challenge trophy cup stands 4 feet tall and is carried/maintained by the juvenile academy winner. Rialto won the first challenge and CART hopes to get the trophy back! CART class 2016-2 will begin in mid August and parents, counselors from Colton, Grand Terrace or San Bernardino are encouraged to get their applications filled out as soon as possible so that they can be processed.
