Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) is pleased to announce the winners of the 14th Annual Resident Research Day. Resident physicians from each of the hospital’s training programs participated, with 67 submissions. Reports included unique cases of clinical interest and controlled trials seeking to determine the effectiveness of new interventions benefiting patient care.
“Research Day provides an opportunity for health care professionals to share their research and knowledge among one another, and to shape the future of medicine with innovative studies,” said David Lanum, M.D., Chairman of the Family Medicine Department at ARMC. “These studies not only influence changes in clinical practice at ARMC, but also spur further research on such topics across the medical field.”
Receiving first place and $1,000 was Joseph Salameh, D.O., and Jannelle Aquino, D.O., of Emergency Medicine, for their study “Utilization of Tranexamic Acid in Civilian Adult Trauma Resuscitation in the Hospital Setting.” Second place and $750 was awarded to Inessa Dombrovsky, D.O., Women’s Health, for her analysis, “Can We Reduce the Number of Low Risk Cesarean Births Among First-Time Pregnant Women by Notifying Individual Providers of Their Cesarean Delivery Rates in Nulliparous, Term, Singleton Vertex (NTSV) Patients?” Receiving third place and $500 each were Stacey Podkovik, D.O., and Harjyot Toor, D.O., and James Brazdzionis, D.O., of Neurosurgery, for their research on the “Prevalence of Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) in Neurosurgical ICU Patients – the Overuse and Over-Diagnosis of the UTI.”
ARMC is a university-affiliated teaching health care facility with 10 residency programs and more than 182 residents. ARMC regularly showcases work done by its resident physicians to help increase participation in regional research efforts.
