Four community members volunteered on Saturday, Sept. 14, for community cleanup in Colton’s District 3, overseen by Council Member Frank Navarro. “This is the beginning of cleanup efforts in this district and in Colton,” Navarro said. The cleanup was the second in a series of community cleanups that City leaders are heading in order to keep Colton beautified, following cleanup efforts led a few weeks ago in District 1. In preparation for the cleanup, Council Member Navarro placed informative flyers throughout the district to inform residents of the cleanup efforts that took place, including near F Street and Mt. Vernon Avenue, at the 7-Eleven near San Bernardino Valley College and the dairy near Colton Avenue on Mt. Vernon, across from the plaza, said Cynthia Ramirez, a Colton resident and daughter of Council Member Frank Gonzales. Council Member Navarro provided water and donuts for the workers. Navarro worked with both residents and Code Enforcement in the cleanup efforts, and volunteers worked from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. until they had nearly filled three large bins full of recyclable waste, provided by Colton Disposal. Acceptable bulky items in the cleanup were refrigerators, water heaters, furniture, appliances and bundled wood and/or carpeting. Unacceptable items included hazardous waste and bulky items like building materials or car parts. [END] Sat. Sept. 14 8 a.m. - 1 p.m., or until 3 bins are filled. It was District 3, Councilman Frank Navarro’s district. I went out to take a few pictures and this is what he said: Councilman Navarro (wearing the white t-shirt) said there were 4 volunteers. He put flyers up at several different locations to inform the residents of their efforts. He posted flyers up at the dairy and “F” and Mt. Vernon, 7/11 near Valley College and the dairy near Colton Ave on Mt Vernon across from the plaza. Councilman Navarro provided water and donuts for the workers. “It is the beginning of the clean up efforts in his district and in Colton” He has worked with residents and Code enforcement to clean the district. They had 3 bins. By the time they ended at 1 o’clock they had 2 1/2 bins full. They were in the cul da sac at the end of “B” street just before Colton Ave.
