Colton has recognized a local resident and Vietnam Veteran who, since October of 1969, has called Colton home. For his service to the country and community, the City of Colton, honored this man with a military banner hung on a light post on La Cadena Drive.
63-year-old Luis Estrada served in the military for 2 years during the Vietnam War. "I was drafted. Once I joined and served I liked it. I learned discipline, respect and the love for my country." said Estrada. He shared that he requested being deployed to Vietnam, but his request was denied.
Estrada has lived in Colton since 1969, surrounded by his friends and family, including his 5 children.
"I was really happy that my children were able to honor me with this great banner, I really appreciate my family for giving me this amazing gift. I hope my grand kids will see my banner and be proud of me and perhaps follow in my footsteps," Estrada shared.
"He has kept the family together all of these years," shared Estrada's daughter, Sabdi Sanchez.
