Classic Cars and Christmas Floats Ring in the Holidays

Classics, rat rods, mini trucks and low riders were the stars of Colton's 39th Annual Christmas Parade, along with other floats designed by the members of the Colton Chamber of Commerce and local residents. Although the majority of the parade participants were classic cars, there were floats from the Colton Association of Educators and Fiesta Village. The Colton Girl Scouts also presented a float depicting a large red Christmas house in addition to having a few of its members walking the parade route giving candy to the spectators. The Colton Christian Church placed a gospel band on their float while Colton High School showed their Colton pride in a gold and burgundy display accompanied by music and their mascot handing out candy to the children. The Angels Cheer Team of Montebello also made an appearance, celebrating their recent national championship in Nevada, and Reid Park Cheerleading walked the whole parade as participants spread holiday cheer down La Cadena Drive. San Bernardino County Fifth District Supervisor Josie Gonzalez and former Congressman Joe Baca also participated in the parade and the Colton fire and police departments displayed their vehicles, too. The parade ended at Fleming Park where the classic cars parked for a car show across the street from the stage. Students from the Colton Community Services Division gave multiple performances ranging from gymnastics, ballet, tap and Heart and Soul line dancing. First place winner of the Christmas Parade was Colton Police Pride with their “Snowing in Colton” float. Second place went to The Doors Christian Fellowship and third place to San Salvador Church. In addition to these winners, awards for the best music group and dance group were given to Colton Christian Church and Danza Guadalupana, respectively. Roberto Alonso, of Colton, said, “The parade was beautiful. I have never seen anything like it before. It truly gives the city a warm welcome to the holidays.” Alonso sat and enjoyed the parade with his nieces and nephews.
