Colton had a two-for-one celebration on Saturday, April 19th as the the Electric Department and the Community Services Department held their Easter Egg Hunt and Earth Day Celebration at Veterans Park.
The event began with a park beautification project, in which the park was cleaned, and the trash bins were painted in bright colors. The event continued with Easter arts and crafts, in which kids were able to decorate Easter bags for egg collecting.
The egg hunt then began until the Earth Day portion of the celebration. The Earth Day projects, included arts and crafts made from recyclable materials, as well as educational and activity booths set up by participating vendors.Republic Services, The Incredible Edible Community Garden and the Colton Wildlands Conservancy were among the vendors providing activities and information.
The Colton Wildlands Conservancy handed out information about their monthly hike, and had a few activities which demonstrated how the watershed in Colton works, and how rain affects the watershed. MRFY, a talking, teaching robot made from recycled materials was on display at the Republic Services vendor booth. The Incredible Edible Community garden had with a composting demonstration. Each person who brought in 20 cans or bottles for recycling received a free raffle ticket to win a prize.
