Recently, the City of Colton honored two of its veterans by decking lampposts with banners featuring their pictures. The banners were sponsored by the De La Rosa family of Colton to honor two of their veteran family members, Jesse Torres and Johnny De La Rosa.
The banners were hung in front of Colton City Hall where family and community members gathered together to watch them be placed.
De La Rosa and Torres' aunt, Diane De La Rosa shared, "These two boys hold a special place in my heart." She went on to say, "Everyone in the military should be honored like this."
De La Rosa served in the United Stated Marines from 1996 to 2003. He was in the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion and was trained as a Radio Operator. He served as a Sergeant in the Iraq War.
Torres, also a Marine, served from 2001 to 2006. He went to boot camp at Camp Pendleton right here in southern California and was then was stationed in 29 Palms as a Communications Technician. He briefly served in Okinawa, Japan before he served three tours in Iraq as a Sargeant.
