Police are asking for the public's help in the investigation of the death of a newborn baby.
Just after 11:30 a.m. Jan. 2 Colton police responded to a call of an infant wrapped in a blanket near a trash bin on the 900 block of North Seventh Street, where they found a newborn male child. Paramedics were called and the newborn was pronounced dead, police said.
"The baby was about one week old and it did not appear that he was born in a hospital," said Corp. Ray Mendez.
An initial investigation found that the infant was left in this location between 11:30 p.m. Jan. 1 and 11:30 a.m. Jan. 2, according to police.
Colton police are treating this death as a potential homicide and investigation is still ongoing, Mendez said.
Anyone with information or potential leads in this case is asked to call Detective Wilson at 909-370-5021. Callers can remain anonymous.
