Joshua C. Becerril is one of the newest service members whose picture was added onto the banners in Colton as part of the Colton Hometown Heroes Military Banner Program.
His banner hangs at the corner of Valley and 9th street in front of the old Food Connection.
Becerril grew up in the community of Fontana and attended Bloomington High School.
He made the choice to join the Marine Corps in January 2010 for several reasons. During this time, he stated, “Being [able] to defend my country during a time of war and for the leadership skills" is what drew him into the Marine Corps. Becerril is a Corporal of Marines with 2nd Batallion 7th Marines.
Being in the military has allowed Becerril to travel, and he has been deployed to Okinawa, Philippines, and Afghanistan.
He stated, “I think being deployed to a Combat Outpost in Afghanistan has taught me a great deal of experience and appreciation for the simple things like a bed. Thanks to the support of my wife, family and friends, it made the deployment less stressful.”
Becerril is getting ready to transition from the military into the civilian life, and shared, “I'm looking forward to finishing college and getting a job where I can implement all that I've learned while serving.”
