In a blink of an eye, it seems, the kids are back in school and summer vacation seems like an all too short memory. This summer was filled with trips to the beach, the cooled movie theater and celebrations in the park.
From Colton’s Summer Concert series, Movies in the Park and other events like children’s birthdays and family get-togethers. our parks have become a home for our warm summer memories. But with summer almost gone, now it’s time to give back.
On Sunday, August 19, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the City of Colton is holding another Keep Colton Clean & Beautiful event at “N” Street Mini Parks.
Keep Colton Clean & Beautiful is a volunteer clean-up event organized by Colton Community Services and is designed to give our community and parks “a little tender, loving care,” according to their flyer.
Past events included picking up trash, sweeping and re-painting park benches and tables. The whole family, ages 3 and up, can participate in this event. Volunteers are asked to pre-register by emailing volunteers@coltonca.gov or calling 909-514-4202.
For the cleanup on August 19, volunteers should meet staff at the Rec on the Road Truck on the corner of South 7th Street and West N Street across from the El Sombrero Banquet Hall. The next cleanup event will be held on Sept. 22, 2018, at Chavez Park from 10 a.m. to noon.
The Colton Parks and Recreation Foundation, during their June 11, 2018 board of directors meeting, approved reimbursement to the Colton Community Services Department for the Keep Colton Clean & Beautiful program in the amount of $248. The Colton Parks and Recreation Foundation also reported that they raised $3,695.01 from different fundraising activities from March through May of 2018, with their concert series raising about $1,200.
Colton Community Services encourages families and friends of the community to come out to their next clean-up event and keep Colton’s parks clean, beautiful and prepared for the upcoming fall festivities.
