The Salt Awareness event, which was held recently at the Luque Community Center, was a huge success with the 50+ Club members. Cal State San Bernardino nursing students, Heather Hernandez and Jenny Brunn presented how to take care of yourself without giving up flavor in your food. Many seniors were surprised to learn that salt raises blood pressure and high blood pressure is the single most important risk factor for having a stroke. Participants took notes and asked many questions. The event ended with a low-sodium lunch prepared by Colton Community Services Recreation Specialist Lisa Harris. Many reported it was one of the best roast beef with mushroom gravy dishes they have had and were amazed it was low-sodium when the announcement was made. Pauline Lopez enthusiastically exclaimed, "Tell Lisa she's hired!" For information on the next 50+ Club special event with Colton Community Services, visit a Colton Community Center near you.
