Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino (FARSB) delivered two truckloads of disaster relief, consisting of 2,100 food boxes totaling 37,800 pounds and 467 gallons of purified and distilled water, to the Santa Rosa Indian Health Clinic to provide food assistance to evacuees affected by the Rosa Fire in Riverside County which burned over 120 acres of land.
“In times of crisis, FARSB aims to extend a hand to ensure those affected by natural disasters have what they need for their community,” said Carolyn Fajardo, CEO at FARSB. “It is essential to have nutritious food to begin rebuilding their community after a natural disaster like the Rosa Fire, and we’re happy to step in for our neighbors in need,” Fajardo continued.
This food donation was coordinated in partnership with the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) to ensure that affected families, who are dealing with evacuations, potential loss of homes, and food shortages during power outages, have the necessary food they need while keeping their families and communities safe. Disasters displace multiple households at once, leaving many without the food they need to rebuild their community.
As part of FARSB’s mission to alleviate hunger, providing nutritional items and water are essential to communities facing hardships. Families on tribal land and the surrounding areas need nutritious food to thrive – especially in times of disaster – and this relief provided necessary nourishment as first responders alleviated fire threats to the area. FARSB will continue to be on alert throughout the fire season to ensure others affected by evacuation orders are not going without.
This food donation highlights FARSB’s commitment to its community to ensure that no family deals with hunger during these critical times. For more information about FARSB’s work to alleviate hunger, visit: http://www.feedingie.org/
