COLTON>> The Colton Joint Unified School district will hold its third African American Parent Advisory Committee meeting on Thursday, April 27. The goal of the meetings will be to encourage parents to work together in measuring the achievements of African American students within the district. "Parents are the most instrumental to enhance student success," said Alejandra De La Torre, Family Involvement Program Manager for Colton Joint Unified School District. The meeting will provide families with a chance to talk about future goals for their children, differences in educational perspectives, and the opportunity to voice their concerns. The meetings are also a platform where different voices are able to come together to discuss goals. In doing this, the CJUSD hopes to provide opportunities for all students to succeed. The meeting will also celebrate the cultural and academic achievements of the community. Topics discussed include: brainstorming activities regarding the educational journeys of students, resiliency, 21st. Century education, federal, state and local educational updates. The meeting will take place from 6-8 p.m. at Grand Terrace High School, on 21810 Main Street, in the lecture hall. Light refreshments will be served and childcare will also be provided. Parents who join the committee will meet with other parents, district and site administrators, and teachers. "We are confident our AAPAC committee will continue to grow in strength and influence in our community," said De La Torre. The next African American Parent meeting is set to take place on Thursday, April 27 at Grand Terrace High School library.
