On Saturday, March 8 the Colton Area Museum (CAM) Association will be having a special guest speaker for their bi-monthly meeting. Victor R. Schiro, Assistant Principal at Colton High School, has been invited to present “Colton Union High School: Fabulous Fairy Tales, Folktales, Fables and Folklore.” Schiro is a California native, born in Hollywood and raised in East Los Angeles. He is, in his own words, “older than Disneyland.” He graduated from East Los Angeles Community College and Cal State San Bernardino. Schiro has taught vocational courses at Colton and Bloomington High Schools, Colton-Redlands-Yucaipa ROP, and agriculture at Yucaipa High School. Having been a part of the Southern Pacific Railroad family all of his life, the name and location of Colton has been no stranger to Schiro. In 1973, in his capacity as a diesel mechanic and then supervisor, Schiro was facing a transfer out to the Colton yards but a turn of fate kept him in Los Angeles for another 15 years. Schiro has been a resident of the Inland Empire for nearly 40 years. The CAM Association March 8 meeting starts at 2 p.m. in the Learning Center, and is open to the public. The address is 380 N. La Cadena Drive in Colton. Regular CAM hours are Wednesdays and Fridays 1 p.m.-4 p.m., and on Saturdays 11 a.m.-2 p.m. For more information about the guest speaker program or the CAM, contact the Colton Museum @ 824-8814, or Dr. G @ 213-3730.
