For the second time, a Saturday morning gathering of Colton residents known as the “Colton Clean-up Crew” led to the cleaning up of a major Colton thoroughfare. Armed with plastic bags, rakes, and brooms, 10 residents made their way up La Cadena Avenue, from Valley Boulevard to C Street, picking up trash, removing weeds and raking up leaves. Led by James Anthony Lopez, the group met at 7 a.m. to get started. The lead people picked up the trash, followed by those who pulled the weeds. Finally, the rakes and booms came in to clean up and bag the mess. Angelina Carrier, one of the event organizers, said the goal is to “renew pride in our city.” On Oct. 4, the Colton Clean-up Crew met for its inaugural “kick-off” event, and clean up the Valley Boulevard corridor between Starbucks and the railroad tracks. Once again, Starbucks Coffee provided the morning wake-up, Nickelodeon Pizza provided the snack, and the City of Colton Public Works provided the trash bag pick-up service. With these clean-up days gaining interest, the Colton Clean-up Crew is making plans for the next event on Saturday, Nov. 8, meeting again at 7 a.m. at the doughnut shop near Rancho Avenue and Valley Boulevard. Residents who are interested in participating in the next clean-up event can simply show up, or contact Angelina Carrier at 909-835-9360 or James Anthony Lopez 909-658-4297 for more information.
