Former San Bernardino Valley College Baseball first team All-American and former baseball assistant coach, Adam Quintana from San Bernardino, and former SBVC Baseball first team All-American catcher, Ryan Miller from Hemet, have both been promoted to Double-A teams within their respective baseball organizations. Quintana has been asked to report to the Frisco RoughRiders and Miller is reporting to the San Antonio Missions; both teams are in the Texas League-South Division. Quintana, age 23, signed a minor league free agent contract with the Texas Rangers on Aug. 3. The right-handed pitcher has spent the majority of 2015 with the Rangers' rookie team for the Arizona League (AZL) in Surprise, Arizona, including one appearance with the Class-A Hickory Crawdads (Salisbury, Maryland) of the South Atlantic League. Quintana’s minor league totals so far, he has pitched in seven games and has a 2-1 record with one save. He has thrown 18 innings and has allowed 11 hits. Quintana has struck out 26 while allowing five walks and he's holding opposing batters to just a .177 batting average. Quintana, who was the Heart of America Athletic Conference's 2015 Pitcher of the Year, went 8-0 in his only season at Peru State College in Nebraska, becoming the fourth PSC Bobcat in six years to either sign or be drafted by a Major League team. Miller, age 22, has been with the San Diego Padres organization since being drafted in the 14th Round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft. The catcher has spent the majority of 2015 with the High-A Lake Elsinore Storm of the California League. In 69 games for the Storm, Miller has batted .261 with three home runs and 27 runs batted in and on the defensive side of the plate. He has played in 461.2 innings and thrown out 26 base stealers. Miller played for head coach Bill Mierzwik for two years, 2012-2013, being named 1st team All-Foothill Conference and a Gold Glove Winner both seasons, as well as being named an All-American his sophomore year.
