Friends and family gathered at the corner of Preston Street and Barton Road in Grand Terrace on Monday night, July 1, for a candlelight vigil honoring the memory of Malaysia Shaday Nash. Nash, 19, passed away at Loma Linda University Hospital in the early morning hours of June 28 after a fatal car crash which took place at Barton and Preston in Grand Terrace. Nash had recently graduated from Colton High School (CHS) as a 2012 graduate, and was studying administration of justice at San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC), shared her grandmother, Diane Parris. Nash’s dream was to become a criminal lawyer, a career she was inspired to pursue after having visited a Los Angeles County law office where Parris worked. While a student at CHS, she was involved in extracurricular programs and was a member of the school’s choir program. Nash is remembered by her many friends for her kindness and friendliness. “She was very sweet and funny,” said Parris. “She was very friendly and outgoing. She had a lot of friends.” “At least twice a month we would go out for seafood,” Parris recalled. “Crab was her favorite and we all love seafood. We’d go to different restaurants and enjoy.” She spent many nights enjoying such meals with her family. Nash was also remembered as a very feminine woman who enjoyed shopping and getting manicures and pedicures. “She loved to dress up,” said Parris. She also loved animals and working out at the gym. She was close to her older brother, Rhomel Thomas, 26, who was one of many visiting the crash site last week. Some of Parris’s favorite memories of her granddaughter include her birthday celebrations and her high school graduation party. “We always made sure we had a separate birthday party for her, since her birthday was so close to Christmas,” Parris recalled. Nash is survived by a number of family members and friends, including her mother, Tanya Manada, her father, Ronald Nash, her brother Rhomel and her grandmother Diane. Memorial services are being held today, July 11, at Montecito Memorial Park in Colton.
