Hampton Inn Hosts Riders on a Mission to Raise Funds for Cancer

At least 40 motorcyclists on a mission to raise money that will help fund cancer research on Wednesday, Sept. 4, converged on Colton’s Hampton Inn & Suites hotel as they ended their 81-mile ride from Barstow to Colton during the 11th day of their 12-day motorcycle ride down historic Route 66 from Chicago to the Santa Monica Pier. Upon their arrival, the motorcyclists were greeted by Hampton Inn & Suites, who has been hosting the riders in this event for the last eight years, and welcomed with a celebratory barbecue reception in the hotel lobby, shared Hampton Inn & Suites general manager Jay Koury. Riders enjoyed a meal of hamburgers, hot dogs and other refreshments in the lobby, taking the chance to rest and chat with other riders before embarking on the last day of their journey. With a seeming loyalty for Hilton branch hotels, the bikers almost a decade ago stopped at Colton’s Hampton Inn & Suites and have been coming back at the tail end of the yearly 2,317-mile trip to Santa Monica, and they’ve been coming back ever since, shared Koury. For Colton’s Hampton Inn, the chance to be a part of a cause like this presents a feel-good sense of pride, he noted. “It feels good to be part of something like this. Many of the bikers have experienced cancer themselves, so it feels good to have a partnership,” Koury said. The Ride for the Relay was founded by Rodger L. Fox in 2006 to raise funds to find a cure for cancer. To date, over $140,000 has been raised through the Ride for the Relay efforts. This year, the Ride raised $19,811.74.
