COLTON>> On Tuesday, May 16 the Colton City Council recognized teachers living in the City of Colton in celebration of National Teachers Month. Established in 2016, “Colton Teacher Appreciation Day” is fast becoming a popular event at City Hall.

Councilman Dr. Luis S Gonzalez (Dr. G) presented to the  City Council 17 educators who were in attendance at the ceremonial event.   Dr. G  reports “there are about 90 teachers living in Colton” that we know, and in future years, “we want to bring them all to this event.”

Teachers, families, and special guests were all in attendance while Dr. G read all of the teacher’s names. He also explained that this was the second year the teachers were being formally recognized in the City of Colton, and was very pleased the City Council decided to continue

this new tradition. “Colton Teacher Appreciation Day,” is held each year, the third Tuesday of May.

During the presentation, Dr. G commented “The Colton Teacher Appreciation Day is an important occasion for all of us.”  He went on to point out that “Teachers make a positive contribution to help our children succeed in life. They learn the Pledge of Allegiance, the U.S. Constitution, how to be responsible American citizens, and how to vote.”

Plans are being made to continue the search for more teachers who live in Colton, and to continue to recognize them during the month of May each year, which is the official National Teachers month, as established by the U.S. Congress and the National Educators Association.

The City Council presentation also included remarks by Colton Mayor, Richard De La Rosa, and Colton Joint Unified School Board Member, Frank Ibarra.
