REDLANDS>> The Unforgettables Foundation held a golf fundraiser July 17 in honor of former board member Dr. Sid Torres, an anesthesiologist who worked at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. Dr. Sid’s Kid’s Memorial Golf Classic raised more than $13,000 to create a special fund to help the families of children who are patients at Loma Linda Children’s Hospital. Torres, who the tournament was named after, died in 2015 after a long battle with brain cancer. The tournament was held in his honor and in remembrance of the love and care he gave as well as for the lives he saved. The event was held Goose Creek Golf Club, located at 11448 68th St. in Jurupa Valley, California. Along with the tournament, range and putting green were made available and participants had the opportunity to compete in a putting contest. The Unforgettables Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Timothy Evans in 1999. According to The Unforgettables website, during a decade of clinical ministry to children and their families, Evans assisted families with the many crises surrounding the death of a child-not the least of which are the crushing financial burdens experienced by families with limited resources. With assistance from educators, medical professionals, social workers and morticians in the Inland Empire, Evans created The Unforgettables Foundation. The mission of the foundation is to assist low-income families provide a dignified, appropriate burial for their children who have died. The foundation is operated almost entirely by volunteers. Currently, the foundation’s help is granted to families throughout Riverside, San Bernardino and Orange Counties with plans to expand. More than 5,000 families have been assisted in more than 80 cities in Southern California, according to the website. For more information about the event or to learn how you can help, call 909-335-1600. Or, stop by the corporate office located at 345 Pearl Ave., Ste. 230, Redlands, California.
