Youth Project Promotes Positive Message

COLTON>> On Oct. 15, a concert was held at Fleming Park in Colton hosted by youth who participated in the youth action project known as #SuperheroME 24/7. The celebration at the park was a youth call to action asking adults to make a commitment: “Don’t provide, ignore, or excuse the use of alcohol with kids.” #SuperheroME 24/7 is an ongoing project in the communities of Bloomington, Colton, Grand Terrace, Devore, Rialto and San Bernardino to bring awareness about the social host ordinance; a law that provides an administrative penalty, or fine, to any adult who hosts a party where alcohol is served to individuals who are under age 21. The #SuperheroME 24/7 project consists of youth wearing a bracelet with 24 links and getting pledges from 7 adults to change the conditions in their environment, such as high availability and accessibility to alcohol and other drugs. By their participation in the project, the youth are making a commitment to stay clean and sober, 24/7. The youth at the event reported that they had received pledges from adults in the community to not allow or provide for underage drinking. This project helps the youth to deliver a powerful message to the community: “Help us to be all that we can be by not making it easy for us to have access to alcohol and other drugs.” If you want to join a coalition to prevent underage drinking and drug use, please call the Community Coalitions for CHANGE at (909) 423-0312.
