In Loving Memory of Verna Vavrina 02/21/1912 – 07/26/2013

Verna Vavrina passed away on July 26, 2013 at the age of 101 years old. She was born in Turlock, CA on February 21, 1912 and relocated with her family to San Bernardino in the 1920s. Verna graduated from San Bernardino High School in 1929 and began work at First Federal Savings and Loan after World War II. She served primarily as secretary at First Federal and continued on its board for many years following her retirement in 1981. A resident of Grand Terrace for over 40 years, she helped raise several grandchildren and great-grandchildren there and was an active member of the Colton Women’s Club. She is survived by son Lester Peake; grandchildren Gene Peake, Leslie Box, Greg Peake, Gwen Peake; great-grandchildren Jennifer Anderson, Lisa Peake, Jodi Peake, Andrew Peake, Brittany Peake and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents Fred and Dora Segars; siblings Ray Segars, Al Segars, Edith Crinklaw; son Douglas Peake and great-grandson James Box. The family is requesting donations to the Colton Women’s Club in lieu of flowers. Her interment will be at Pioneer Memorial Cemetery in San Bernardino.
