COLTON >> The Colton Police Department announces the upcoming graduation of the C.A.R.T (Colton at Risk Teens) Academy. The C.A.R.T Academy operations were shut down approximately five years ago due to staffing issues. Colton Police Chief Owens and the newly elected council agreed to bring the program back which restarted its operations at Summit College. The C.A.R.T Academy is a 16 week paramilitary program designed to redirect negative behavior of teenagers, mentoring them as young adults and providing an additional resource to parents and families. The academy is staffed by the Colton Police, San Bernardino Police, San Bernardino Unified School District Police and the Colton Fire departments. The program serves Colton, Grand Terrace, San Bernardino and Muscoy. The graduation will include a ceremony, presentation of outstanding awards, highlight video and much more. Class 2016 who created the class slogan “It’s not our past that make us, but our accomplishments that shape us," consists of 20 recruits from eight area schools in Colton, San Bernardino and Grand Terrace. Over 20 governmental entities and faith-based organizations teach at the CART Academy, which includes a curriculum of 150 hours of academic and physical instruction. Law enforcement and school district leaders from throughout San Bernardino will be in attendance. Members of the media, past instructors and leaders who are combating juvenile delinquency are encouraged to attend this event.
