With a team GPA of 3.173, California Baptist University's men's basketball team received a 2014-15 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award, created by the NABC Committee on Academics, as announced Tuesday. The Lancers, who finished the 2014-15 season with a 26-7 overall record and Sweet 16 appearance, are one of more than 175 colleges and universities who received the award, which recognize outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2014-15 season. In order to earn a NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, institutions in NCAA Divisions I, II, III, and NAIA Divisions I and II, must count the grade point averages of all men's student-athletes who competed during the 2014-15 season. Individually, Michael Robinson was named to the 2014-15 NABC Honors Court after meeting a high standard of academic criteria: 1. Academically a junior or senior and a varsity player. 2. Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2014-15 academic year. 3. Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution. 4. Member of a NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Division I or II institution with a NABC member coach. The 2014-15 NABC Honors Court recognizes those men's collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season, with a record number of 1,000 student-athletes from more than 350 colleges and universities. The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom.
