Friday night football at Colton High School (CHS) had special guests at their game on Sept. 26. Students from McKinley Elementary School were invited to welcome in the Varsity Football team as they entered the field before their game. Every year, the young students from McKinley Elementary are invited to attend CHS's home game and host the entrance for the Varsity Football team. Colton High School provides the school with tickets for all students and their parents. The school sent over an audio message to every student's household inviting them to the game and providing information about the event. Every McKinley student was asked to wear a shirt representing their school; many chose a green shirt representing their school color. The McKinley students formed a pathway right in front of the entrance and under the arch of balloons to high-five the Colton High School Varsity Football team as they ran out onto the field. Before the students had to return to the bleachers to watch the game, they all gathered with the Colton High School cheer leading team and the Yellowjacket mascot to take a picture on the side of the field. Julie Porter, Vice President of the PTA at McKinley Elementary said, "Our kids were very excited!" The students get invited every year to at least one of the home games, and according to Porter, the kids look forward to it every year. One of the first grade students that attended, Jaren Prieto, was so excited that his mother recorded his reaction as the Varsity Football players ran out. "His eyes were wide open, his mouth open," Porter shared, "it was icing on the cake. All of the kids were talking about it the next day, they were all just so excited."
