Arrowhead Regional Medical Center’s commitment to saving lives through donation was recognized by OneLegacy, the federally-designated organ, eye and tissue recovery agency in the greater Los Angeles Metropolitan area, during the agency’s annual Donation & Transplantation Symposium held recently in Pomona. ARMC received special recognition for the number of its lung transplants over a 12-month period. With OneLegacy, 12 lung transplants were made possible in the period of one year. The Donation and Transplantation Symposium is an annual conference hosted by OneLegacy that recognizes donation efforts in hospital and transplant centers across the region. The support of facilities like ARMC to the donation process is vital for communities in the region. More than 7,000 people in the Los Angeles metropolitan area are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. It is estimated that 17 people die every day waiting for a transplant in the United States. “We would like to thank the families and individuals who have made the courageous decision to become donors,” said ARMC Medical Director Dr. Richard Pitts. “Their selfless actions help to save lives.” Since 1977, OneLegacy has served as the bridge between donors and patients awaiting life-saving transplants. OneLegacy works with over 210 hospitals and 11 transplant centers to serve more than 19 million residents in the seven-county greater Los Angeles area.
