Community In Unity Becomes a Blessing for the Community

COLTON>> Not even the rain would stop God’s work at the “Community in Unity” event hosted by the Church of Fire in Christ on Saturday, Dec. 17 at Veterans Park in Colton. Pastor John Braxton and his wife, Kathy Braxton established the outreach in 2014. Pastor Braxton said he felt that God had put in their heart to be a blessing to the people of the community. Community in Unity was created in order to give love to people and provide them multiple resources to assist them in life. At the recent event, 20 vendors were present providing a multitude of services from free haircuts to hygiene kits for the homeless. The Braxton's said they both hoped the event would go well. Though the rain that came left some worried, the Braxton’s said they were sure that God wouldn’t allow the rain to fall on the event that was blessing so many people in need. “We’ve been doing this for two years and God had never allowed it to rain on the day of the outreach,” Braxton said. “It rained all night, the night before and even rained 2 hours before the event. But when the event started, the rain stopped, the clouds opened and the sun came out.” Braxton estimated that 400 people had attended the event, parking lots were full and cars were parked along the streets. They gave free meals to more than 224 people, 165 groceries were given to families in need and 174 children received toys from the Church of Fire in Christ's First Annual Toy Giveaway. “It went well and it was a beautiful day,” Braxton said. They gave away everything that they could, as they gave away their last toy and packed up their cars with the last of their things. The Braxton’s noticed it began to rain again as they were leaving Veterans Park after the successful event. “We don’t believe in coincidences, this was a blessing from God,” said Braxton. The Community in Unity event will return on Saturday, Apr. 22 and then continue every fourth Saturday of the month at Veterans Park in Colton. For those interested in attending a service at Church of Fire in Christ in Grand Terrace, service times include: bible study at 10 a.m on Tuesday, prayer at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, bible study at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Spanish service at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, men’s service at 7 p.m. on Thursday and English service at 10 a.m. and Spanish service at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Church of Fire in Christ is located at 12354 Mount Vernon Avenue in Grand Terrace.
