George Aguilar Seeks District 2 Council Seat

George Aguilar, a commissioner with the City of Colton Public Utilities Commission, is running for election to represent Colton’s District 2 with a vision to “work to improve all of Colton.” “I grew up in Colton and have seen a decline that I feel we need to address and reverse,” Aguilar said. “Overall, I would like to see Colton become the type of city that my grandkids would want to stay in or come back to raise their families in.” Aguilar said he has a long record of public service, including his experience as a chief financial officer, a chief executive officer and a general manager with the public utilities district. He has also served as a member of the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District for 28 years, where he represents Colton, Aguilar explained. Additionally, he has been a realtor since 1977. Aguilar said he would like to see changes to the city: “We need to hire qualified city administrators and increase accountability,” he said. The city should also “pass a balanced budget while increasing reserves and stabilizing our utility rates,” Aguilar felt. Aguilar also wants to “modernize city administration and eliminate wasteful past practices,” Aguilar said. He wants to do this through “continuing to clean house as far as employees that are not following the laws and budgets set up by federal, state, and Colton” lawmakers. Aguilar holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration master’s degree in business administration and management, both from American Intercontinental University. “I will bring a professional management background and team building skills to strengthen the council’s ability to properly macro-manage the city and set sound policies and guidelines,” Aguilar said. Aguilar finished, “I would put all my effort into getting the city out of a crisis mode by hiring a sound fiscal management team including a new city manager and chief financial manager who will implement basic accounting and managerial practices.” Aguilar runs against Colton Recreation & Parks Commission Chair Summer Zamora Jorrin to represent District 2 this November.
