Jane’s Ex Plays for Colton

The Concert in the Park series had another hit event this last Sunday with local talent Jane’s Ex performing for the residents of Colton and surrounding communities. This concert marked the 28th day of Colton’s 31 Days of Play series. The event was hosted by Colton’s Parks and Recreation Department and is one of the five concerts in the series held at Fleming Park. This series has been active for over fifteen years and has accumulated a loyal local following. Melissa Sutton commented on the concert, “I come here every year. The music is great and it’s nice to get out, enjoy the music, and still be able to stay local.” Melissa brought her daughter, Alyssa Sutton, to the event and plans to come back next Sunday as well. Sutton’s friend Lucinda Madrigal also came to the event with her son Neo Madrigal. “I love it! I am having so much fun,” Madrigal said. There were plenty of other families out enjoying the music and with food booths, refreshments readily available, and a kids’ playing corner, the concert is a hotspot for local families to come out and enjoy themselves. Jane’s Ex played a mixture of original music and popular cover songs such as “Seven Nation Army” by The White Stripes and “You Shook Me All Night Long” by AC/DC. Jane’s Ex consists of six members, including two guitarists, one bassist, one drummer, one keyboardist, and one vocalist. The band has been known as Jane’s Ex for about five years, and has gone by other aliases in the past including Liquidy Split and Kill the Choir. The band draws from influences across a myriad of genres and artists, from Jimi Hendrix to modern pop and heavy metal. They have recently expanded their range as they have dived into Indie music as well. The intermission show treated guests to a much slower tempo duet from performers Jessica Reliford and Thomas Robles. With their voices and a guitar they played covers of songs from Frank Sinatra’s “Somethin’ Stupid” to a Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat duet called “Lucky.” The duet has been playing together since high school when in their senior year they partnered for a talent show at Colton High School. Tacos, kettle corn and fresh lemonade were all available at trucks for guests to indulge in as they enjoyed the night’s entertainment. Proceeds of the event will go towards sponsoring children for many of the classes that the Colton Community Services Department offers to residents. Bands such as Latin Flair, The Flamingo Band, and The Rhythm and Beat Band will be performing in weeks to come, covering genres from all across the spectrum.
