Community Center Brings Spring Magic

COLTON>> On Saturday March 4, The Colton Community Center – Hutton Center turned into the most beautiful display of flowers, plants and vegetables. Now in its fourth year, the Inland Empire Master Gardeners Club of Colton and the San Bernardino County Orchid society combined forces to not only display beautiful flower/garden arrangements, but award prizes and offer several smaller potted plants in a boutique sale. From one corner to the other, the displays provided a splendid array of color, warmth and creativity. “The variety of arrangements were impressive” said Councilman Dr. Luis Gonzalez, who for many years has tended to his own backyard vegetable garden and carefully examined each of the presentations. The entire day was full of activity as the morning featured “The Orchid Doctor,” who encouraged participants to bring in their ill plants, and offered solutions to bring them back to good health. Other sessions throughout the day included topics such as repotting, orchid care, companion planting, propagating cactus, and planting with children. "This annual garden festival, boutique and flower show event is one of the hidden gems of our city and anyone who is interested in flowers, plants and gardening techniques would be invited to attend one of the many activities planned throughout the year," Gonzalez said. For more information on attending, entering, the presentation schedule, or general questions contact Linda Lang 951-663-5237.
