Bloomington High School senior, Cameren Ceniceros has been selected as the recipient of the prestigious Joseph C Gilliam Academic Achievement Award, the highest-level academic award for the Navy JROTC program. Ceniceros will receive $1,000 and has been accepted into the UCR, CSUSB, SDU, SDSU honors program. The award consists of a laminated plaque containing a citation signed by the Chief of Naval Education and Training Command and a biographical statement of the awards namesake. The stringent requirements for a nomination for this award eliminate 90 percent of all cadets in the national program. The award reflects the selection as the top senior cadet in NJROTC area 11, which encompasses 56 high schools and approximately 7000 cadets. Ceniceros attended Jurupa Vista Elementary, Ruth O Harris Middle School, and Bloomington High School. His father, Randell Ceniceros shares, “We have steered him to excel. He should not enter into a challenge unless he can accomplish and give it his best effort.” Ceniceros will apply his National Navy Scholarship to USC, if not accepted the scholarship will default to UCLA or UC Berkeley.
