During his tenure as mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa was renowned for his incessant desire of photo-ops. Similarly, newly elected councilman Luis Gonzalez suffers from the same malady. Colton City News is in the business of reporting, promoting news, or in some cases, endorsing a candidate for political office. As such, I propose the following: will Colton City News scrutinize Councilman Gonzalez and his record of accomplishments during the four years of his tenure as councilman of District 4? Sadly, the commencing of his four-year tenure is replete of a continuation in campaign mode e.g., schmoozing, rubbing elbows with residents, picking up trash, teaching music to others, feeding the poor e.g., Feed the Need. Those are commendable efforts by Councilman Gonzalez, but are abysmally short of city governance. It is time to roll up his sleeves and get to the business of serving the residents of Colton, in specific, residents of District 4. I challenge Councilman Gonzalez to submit a list of his policy priorities at the next city council meeting and provide that list to the Colton City News. Although I do not know much of Councilman Gonzalez, I can say empathetically submit several of his traits: (1) Councilman Gonzalez is adept at moving residences i.e., carpetbagging; (2) insisting that he be addressed as doctor, albeit a doctorate in music. It is understood that I supported Richard Prieto for councilman, District 4, but my views and opinions are solely mine. The clock is ticking and the calendar moving along: what will Councilman Luis Gonzalez accomplish these next four years? In my opinion, his list of priorities or agenda will not be his; rather, that of others. As the adage goes: ‘the proof is in the pudding.’ In closing, I beseech Councilman Gonzalez to from refrain his insistence that those attending city council meetings or those in public address him as doctor; rather, Councilman Gonzalez or Luis.
