East Valley Water District (District) has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for their 2014-2015 Fiscal Year Budget by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and represents a significant achievement for the District. “The District’s 2014/15 Fiscal Year Budget focused on continuing a high level of service to the community and taking necessary steps to prepare for the future,” said James Morales, Jr. Board Chairman. “This award recognizes a sound financial plan focused on our commitment to leadership, partnership, and stewardship.” To receive the award, the District satisfied nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation in the areas of policy documentation, financial plan, operations guide, and communications. The budget document was rated as proficient in all four categories and met the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories to receive the award. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting. The award recognizes efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments in North America. “The annual budget development requires participation from staff at all levels of the organization in order to serve as a guide for projects and programs,” said John Mura General Manager/CEO. “The District goes to great lengths to create a budget document that not only reflects our complex operation, but presents the information in a manner that can easily be reviewed and understood by a broad audience.”
