A single family home in Bloomington sustained damage from a fire last week. Firefighters responded on-scene to the home in the 18400 block of San Bernardino Avenue minutes after the San Bernardino Communications Center received multiple calls around 8:46 p.m. reporting a house with fire exuding out of several windows, according to fire reports. Responding fire crews forced entry through a locked gate and the front door in order to enter the structure, where they were confronted with high heat and heavy smoke conditions. Reports indicate that the high flames and pack rat conditions made access to the seat of the fire challenging. Fire crews were aided by truck company operations that were able to successfully remove superheated gases and smoke by cutting ventilation holes in the home's roof. According to reports, the fire was extinguished in approximately 30 minutes. No one was home at the time of the incident. Fire crews discovered one deceased pet dog in the structure after extinguishment. San Bernardino County Fire investigators are still investigating the cause of the blaze. An estimated $90,000 in damage was sustained to the structure and its contents. Assistance was received by the Rialto Fire Department. In all, four engines, two medic squads, one truck, one rescue and one battalion chief responded to the incident. San Bernardino Ave. was closed to all traffic between Linden and Locust for approximately two hours.
