Voice of the People: Records Request

Why did Colton Councilman Frank Gonzales, Councilwoman Susan Oliva and Mayor Sarah Zamora make a records request, which they have a right to, on the same day asking for the same information? The information they asked for on February 13, 2014 was for “a list of records requests from January 2013 through present”. I know it wasn’t to see how the records request department is doing. A simple question as to how many requests were made and were they answered would sound more like city business. The same request was made by the two councilmembers in August of 2013 (list of all public records requests). This doesn’t sound like city business to me. All of those who made records request during that year period should be asking “why do you want to know who I am and what information I am asking for”. It’s not city business and sounds more like checking to see who is asking for what information that might be politically damaging to them or seeing who their political enemies might be. By the way, it’s been asked that the public do some checking elsewhere, if possible, before making a records request so as to not overburden the City Clerk’s office. The information these elected officials are asking for is already on the City of Colton’s website.
