An unforgettable charity golf tournament took place on Monday Oct. 5. However, the evening before was truly an unforgettable evening of fine dining, Casino Night, a silent auction so large that it blanketed BMW of Murrieta with one-of-a-kind items, sports collectables, and more. The evening was topped off with a live auction of signed golf memorabilia such as Phil Mickelson, Ricky Fowler, Jordan Speith and many others including the man himself Tom Pernice Jr. Over $100,000 was raised by the Tom Pernice, Jr. Charities a foundation that supports a number of causes. Pernice, Jr. chose the University of Iowa Stephen a Wynn Institute for vision research as one of his charities to benefit and the other charity that is near and dear to his heart is the Unforgettable’s Foundation, which provides a dignified burial for low income families who have lost a child under the age of 18. Dr. Edwin M. Stone of the University of Iowa Institute for vision research is investigating Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis (LCA). This is the same degenerative genetic disorder Pernice’s daughter, Brooke, has suffered from since birth. Brooke, age 20, is in her senior year at Belmont University in Nashville studying theology. Blind since birth, with an inherited retinal degenerative condition, she has become an accomplished Christian singer and songwriter with several record albums who is now on her way to gaining her degree in theology. Pernice, Jr. grew more aware of the Unforgettables Foundation through his daughter Brooke who performed at several of their charity events. Tim Evans, founder of the Unforgettable’s Foundation, said the proceeds will assist his foundations mission. “We help families with the terrible financial effects of a child’s funeral, and we are grateful that a good man like Tom takes our caused so much to heart,” said Evans. This upscale event is now in its fifth year and the event continues to get better every year! This event means so much to Tom and the entire Pernice family. “We believe it has become a successful annual event and we are confident that we can continue to grow each year,” said Pernice, Jr. Pernice Jr. is celebrating his 32nd year of playing on the PGA tour and Champions tour. Since his career began in 1983, he has won more than two PGA Tour titles and four Champions Tour Events, most recently the 2014 Charles Schwab Cup Championship, with lifetime earnings near 19 million.
