On Sunday, Oct. 18, for the seventh consecutive year, Colton Seventh-Day Adventist Church offered to its neighbors and friends a comprehensive health-check event called Health Expo. Over 50 health professionals and church volunteers came together to see our city to become a healthier and happier community. Visitors went through 20 stations dedicated to various health aspects such as asthma treatment, diabetes, vegan diet, nutrition, eye examination, holistic lifestyle, al-anon, drug prevention, Lyme decease awareness, aerobic exercises, diabetes, weight management, cholesterol/blood-sugar check, free flu shots, dental evaluations, emotional/spiritual care, and even free haircuts for children. One visitor commented, “I can’t believe this day and age people still do these kinds of things out of kindness.” The church volunteers went out of their way to make sure that every guest felt welcomed and cared for. Children enjoyed a fun face painting station and yummy treats. The hospitality team prepared plenty of snacks and water for everyone. The community services gave away many loaves of fresh healthy bread. The Expo provided opportunities to give as well as to receive care. A LifeStream’s (formerly Blood Bank of San Bernardino and Riverside counties) blood donation van was busy through the entire day. “Wheelchairs for the World” also hosted a collection booth. This event would not be possible without generosity and kindness of our heath care friends: registered nurses from Dignity Health, San Bernardino Community Hospital; Dr. Edgar Alfaro-McField, San Bernardino Community Hospital; Dr. Grace Lee, San Antonio Hospital; Dr. Grace Kumamoto Riverside Clinic; Dr. Sashi Tribhuwan, retired pediatrician; Dr. Alexander Wong, optometrist at Alexander Wong Associates in Colton; Inherla Rivera, registered dietitian at Veteran's Hospital; Samantha Jones, registered dietitian at San Bernardino Community Hospital; Pacific College LVN Nursing Students with their director Judith Carr; and LLU School of Dentistry students with Dr. Gary Kerstetter. Colton Seventh-day church and all the volunteers at the Health Expo 2015 wish you good health and hope to see everyone next year.
