Colton's District 3 councilmember Frank Navarro was selected by unanimous vote to serve the city as its mayor pro tem. At the Jan. 20 regular meeting, outgoing Mayor Pro Tem Isaac Suchil nominated Navarro to succeed him in the position. The motion was seconded by Councilmember David Toro and approved by unanimous vote of the council. "Thank you very much to my colleagues for your support," Navarro said in a brief speech following his appointment. "Mr. Suchil, I will follow in your footsteps and we'll move forward." Mayor Richard de la Rosa thanked Suchil for his service as the mayor pro tem over the last year, applauding his communication with the council. "We'd like that to continue, that communication with the new mayor pro tem," said de la Rosa. Navarro is in the second year of his four-year term, which he was elected to serve in December 2012. As a councilmember, he has represented Colton on several local and regional agencies and committees that include the Colton CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) Committee, the Colton Crossing Committee, San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG), the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) and more. Navarro has said his objectives as a councilmember are to address utility rates, focus on fiscal stabilization, business development and revenue sources, as well as jobs and service amenities for city residents. In Colton, the mayor pro tem is chosen by the Colton City Council and serves one year in the position.
