Seniors Share Jams, Enjoy Fresh Breakfast Smoothies at Community Center

The Luque Community Center of Colton knows its senior patrons well. They know how they like their coffee, what their favorite creamers are, and especially, what they’d like to snack on in the early morning. And they know that a little socialization in the morning never hurt anyone. The community center last week held its Jam and Jellies event, which encouraged attendees to bring their own jams and jellies to share among one another. Provided by the community center were toast and bagels for spreading each person’s favorite fruit spread on. The jam and jellies event is just one of many activities the community center offers during the week for seniors. From bingo to workshops to exercise, event organizers and community service officials say those who come, even from places well outside of Colton, love the activities and the friends they make in the process. A surprise to the community center and the attendees Friday afternoon was a pair of recreational center employees who came to celebrate National Food Day properly. They mixed up several different samples of smoothies, some of which included healthy options like avocado, spinach, mint, fruit, dark chocolate and soy milk. Each option provided a healthier and more price-friendly eating choice. Cups were handed out along with recipe cards people could take home to try making some for themselves.
