COLTON >> Joe Baca Middle School students Ariadne Anglin, Alberto Casillas, Andrea Gargallo and Eriberto Gonzalez, were selected as the winners of the San Bernardino County Superior Court’s Law Day 2017 essay contest. Law Day, celebrated each year on May 1, is a nationally-recognized day for reflecting upon and promoting public awareness of the rule of law in the United States. Each year, courts and members of the legal community host educational events to highlight and celebrate important aspects of the legal system. The students were selected as winners for their analysis of how the 14th Amendment to the Constitution has impacted their community. These students and their classmates have been invited to attend a field trip on Monday, May 1 to the San Bernardino Justice Center. The winners will also each receive a certificate and gift card. The contest was open to 8th graders in the Fontana, Colton, Redlands and San Bernardino unified school districts, but the CJUSD students were the only contest winners. Teacher Michael Bayless stated that he is incredibly proud of his students. “As an educator, I am fortunate to witness creativity and talent in my classroom,” Bayless said. “Ariadne, Alberto, Andrea and Eriberto are determined young ladies and men who want to be the best they can be. I am proud to be their teacher. This is one reason why I love my profession and all my students.” Joe Baca Middle School Principal Mike Williford added that, “It is amazing to have such dedicated teachers who are willing to push our students to achieve not only in the school setting, but also to achieve and succeed outside of school. We, at Joe Baca Middle, could not be prouder of the hard work and dedication of our students and staff.”
