Abstract Paintings of Local Artist to Go On View at "Evening with the Artists"

Soul-churning sunsets, overcast mornings, and atmospheric creations form the focus of Yucaipa artist Michael Bedoya, known for his abstract paintings of stormy, moody, and fog-encased paintings, many of which create an almost visceral emotion for the viewer. Bedoya will be one of five artists featured during this year’s annual “Evening with the Artists” event, hosted by the Redlands Community Hospital Foundation on Friday, April 22 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. “I essentially hand over my vision to you the viewer once I am done with my work,” he said. “Your experience with my work is the gift abstraction gives.” Bedoya attended Crafton Hills College (CHC) in Yucaipa. Nuances of darkness permeate his large-scale canvases, with contrasting scarlet, lime, and blue hues. Subtle glazes contrasted against heavy brushstrokes make up his work. His mediums of choice are oil on canvas and panel. Bedoya has been an exhibiting artist at the Riverside Art Museum (RAM) and numerous other venues along the West Coast and Inland Empire. “I’m excited to present my artwork to the local community and participate in an event that means much to a lot of local art lovers and those who want to support our art community and hospital,” Bedoya said. “I look forward to making new connections between the community and my artwork.” Bedoya will join artists Leslee Adams, Jeff Skelly, Karen Werner, and Trudy Wood at the annual “Evening with the Artists” event. Bedoya’s artwork will be available for purchase at the Stan and Ellen Weisser Education Pavilion from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 22. Proceeds will benefit the Redlands Community Hospital Foundation’s art fund. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served during the evening’s elegant event. Tickets are $25. The Foundation’s art program began in 1978. Today, the hospital exhibits a collection of more than 800 works of original art and historic photographs in the Redlands Community Hospital Art collection.
