As part of the recent Council Meeting April 1, Council Member Dr.G (Dr. Luis S. González) presented a proclamation for Week of the Young Child, which is observed nationally in recognition of all Early Care and Education (ECE) programs in the United States. Receiving this proclamation was Chris Rymer, Program Director for Early Care and Education in the City of Colton.

The City of Colton has two programs; one for school age children up to grade 6, and a pre-school program. Over 300 kids are involved in these programs.

During the presentation DrG mentioned that early child education is important and that educational leaders throughout the country are in agreement that the  early years of a child’s life are important. During that time, the most rapid brain development occurs which lays the foundation for all future learning.

With this in mind, high-quality early childhood programs benefit our communities, and ultimately our society. Participation in high-quality early childhood education not only prepares children to succeed in school, but earn higher wages as an adult and live healthier lives.

With this presentation the City Council wanted to formally recognize the importance of early childhood education, and should be valued, respected, and supported for the critical roles it plays in educating tomorrows leaders.
