At the June 6 meeting, the Colton City Council recognized nine teachers who live or work in the City of Colton. Following the observance of National Teachers Month, Council Member Dr.G introduced each Colton Educator representing different schools, class levels, subjects, and years of experience.

The individual recipients of this recognition for 2023 were Mrs. Mirian Borja, sixth-grade teacher; Mrs. Jennie Blinkinsop, fourth-grade teacher;  Mr. Jeremy Dollins, Colton High School teacher, Yearbook; Mrs. Eva Heras, retired first-grade teacher; Mr. Robert Montano, Colton High School teacher, Math; Mr. Ken Taber, Colton High School teacher, Band; Ms. Evelin Villa, Colton High School teacher, Wellness Program; Mr. David Wheatley, Colton High School teacher, History; and Mr. Tom Wurz, Colton High School teacher, Graphic Communications.

The presentation was planned for the June Council Meeting, which is just after the completion of the academic school year. The timing was perfect as teachers would soon be busy working summer jobs, spending time with family, and/or planning for the next school.

Teachers, families, students, and special guests were all in attendance while each of the teachers’ names was read. As the teachers were introduced individually, they came forward to receive their certificates. This annual recognition of Colton teachers began in 2016 and formally recognizes the value and importance of teachers in the City of Colton.

During the presentation, it was announced that Colton Teacher Appreciation Day is an important occasion for all of us. Everyone has had a teacher or several teachers during their school days. With the guidance of a teacher, students learn various subjects, the Pledge of Allegiance, the U.S. Constitution, how to be responsible American citizens, and how to vote.

With this formal presentation, the City Council recognizes the commitment our teachers make to educating our Colton students. Teachers also make a positive contribution to the lives of their students and leave a lasting impression. Each and every day, through dedication and hard work, teachers provide the inspiration to help our students succeed.

These Colton teachers are to be congratulated on their success in educating our youth, as well as preparing them to be responsible and productive citizens in the Colton community. The City of Colton certainly supports our public schools and is honored to recognize these nine individual teachers as part of the Colton Teacher Appreciation Day for 2023.
