At the October 3 meeting, the Colton City Council recognized Water Professionals Appreciation Week with a proclamation presented to Jessica Sutorus, Environmental Conservation Supervisor and Brian Dickinson, Director of Public Works, Water and Wastewater.

With this proclamation, the City of Colton recognizes the importance of acknowledging the valuable work that is done day and night in order to provide reliable drinking water and efficient wastewater services to the residents of Colton. “These dedicated individuals are highly certified and give us their best to keep our water systems working properly 24-7,” says Director Dickinson.

During the presentation, it was explained that water is the lifeblood of our community and without safe and reliable water, no community and no sector of the economy, from heavy industry to commercial retail to the residents who live in Colton, can thrive or expand. In addition, thanks to highly skilled and trained water professionals in our department and the dedication of our water and wastewater support staff, the City of Colton meets some of the most stringent water quality standards in the State of California.

Jessica Sutorus commented, “Through our sustainability and water conservation efforts, our Water Department was able to save approximately 3,600 acre feet this year, and continues to develop ways to be reliable and efficient.”  She also mentioned that through the efforts of staff member Cecilia Griego, this strive for sustainability and water conservation was impressed upon students at Colton High School, who formed a “working “ club which recently won awards at the high school regional solar boat race. “This was the first year we participated,” reported Sutorus.

Given the high level of service provided by our water and wastewater professionals and the achievements attained by our department, including high water quality standards, water conservation, sustainability and reliability, the recognition of Water Professionals Appreciation Week was certainly well-deserved.

The City Council was proud to proclaim the week of Oct 3, as Water Professionals Appreciation Week in Colton and extends its sincere gratitude and appreciation for providing excellent water and wastewater services to our community every day.
