At the February 13 business meeting, the Colton Woman’s Club (CWC) welcomed all of its members to a pot-luck style lunch, along with holiday decorations in celebration of Valentine’s Day. In addition, this spirited observance of a favorite holiday, was made special with the recognition of past presidents of the club, as well as two past District Presidents who are Colton Club members.

The past Presidents who were recognized were; Lois Fisher 2011-2013 (2 terms); Peggy Reagan 2013-2014, Linda Chavez 2014-2015, Judy Dishaw 2015-2018 (3 terms); Dena Leavitt 2018-2020 (2 terms), Patricia Collier 2020-2021, Linda Brooks 2021-2022, and Judy Dishaw 2022-present.  The two who served as a District President were Stephanie Stark 2014-2016 and Cheryl Sardeson 2020-2022.

The Colton Woman’s Cub is the largest women’s organization in Colton with a membership of 108 active members. Since 1900, they have effectively established themselves as a major service club that is active in the Community, and who supports a number of local organizations, donates to charitable causes, and provides for the cultural and social needs of all our members.

CWC Rental Trustee Sylvia Loza, commented, “This is a wonderful group of ladies who work hard and care for the community. They are more than willing to give of their time whenever possible.” Upon elaborating, she went on to mention several activities in which the CWC participates, including the Colton Birthday Celebration, Veterans Day, the City Halloween Festival, the Winter Wonderland event, CJUSD student scholarships, candy for Santa Claus Inc., See’s candies fundraisers, backpack give-a-ways, crafts for kids, stocking stuffers, gift cards, and much more.

In addition to these activities the CWC also provides several light socials for its members including arts n’ crafts, bingo, tea parties, dance lessons and Quarter mania. “The Clubhouse is a focal point for women to gather,” says Lorna Whitaker, 30-year member and pianist for the CWC. However, when a member finds themselves ill and unable to attend, several members make a home visit to offer encouragement, help with any basic needs and provide them with the latest news. “We also celebrate the birthdays of our members,” added Whitaker.

As President, Judy Dishaw presides over the meetings and makes sure all the committees and activities are covered. “We have a great group of ladies,” she commented, and added, “This is a wonderful outreach to get the members together and to welcome new people.” For more information about the Colton Woman’s Club, their programs, or membership contact President Judy Dishaw @ 840-600-1993.
