COLTON>> Health Information Professionals week began on Sunday, March 26 and will end Saturday, April 1, and Arrowhead Regional Medical Center celebrated this year's theme "Leading the way to Quality Data" by honoring health information professionals. “Patient health information is viewed individually as the patient’s medical condition progresses," said ARMC HIM supervisor, Leah Beck, RHIA. "However, it can also be viewed as part of a larger data set for research and education, developing strategies, and as an asset to the healthcare organization.” Beck also ascertained that by turning data into knowledge, the hospital would be able to achieve their goal of improving cost, quality and population health. Health information professionals include HIM staff, health IT, and health informatics. During HIP Week, health information professionals engage in activities to raise awareness of their work. Activities include displays in facility lobbies, website banner, social media promotion, and other methods of getting the word out. ARMC will also share HIM team accomplishments in its Health Scene Magazine. “In order for healthcare to meet the Triple Aim of improving care, reducing costs, and improving population health, we need to analyze and use data effectively,” said Lynne Thomas Gordon, CEO of American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). “During AHIMA’s Health Information Professionals Week, the goal is to raise awareness that health information management professionals are the best equipped to understand health data.” The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) represents more than 103,000 health information professionals in the United States and around the world. AHIMA is advancing informatics, data analytics, and information governance to achieve the goal of providing expertise to ensure trusted information for healthcare.
