California Governor Jerry Brown has reappointed San Bernardino County Chief Probation Officer Michelle Scray Brown to the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC). The reappointment will require Senate approval. Chief Scray Brown will serve on the BSCC concurrently with her previous appointment by Governor Brown to the State Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (SACJJDP) while carrying out her responsibilities to the citizens of San Bernardino County as the Chief Probation Officer. Chief Scray Brown has a reputation for promoting innovative justice programs. Her philosophy of blending evidence-based intervention programs at reporting centers with comprehensive supervision and suppression strategies in the community have proven to be effective at reducing recidivism with offenders. Chief Scray Brown is a 30-year veteran of correctional work beginning in 1985, and has spent her entire career with the San Bernardino County Probation Department. She worked her way up through the ranks with assignments to most divisions and commands in all three department bureaus, becoming Chief in 2009. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and a master’s degree in criminal justice from CSUSB. Chief Scray Brown was born in Needles and is a lifelong resident of San Bernardino County. Chief Scray Brown currently lives in Hesperia with her husband and their three children. “I continue to be honored by Governor Brown’s reappointment. In a time of significant legislative changes to the criminal justice system, I am humbled to work with others to continue to develop strategies, programing, and resources. I look forward to another opportunity to serve with other BSCC members,” Chief Scray Brown said.
