Roberta MacDonald, a 17-year veteran to the Colton Joint Unified School District was honored at the most recent school board meeting for her service and dedication to the district and students it serves. MacDonald currently works as the secretary for Principal, Angela Dischinger. MacDonald shares, “I feel very humble about being recognized. I also feel very blessed that I have had the opportunity to give back to not only the students, but staff and the community.” MacDonald shares, “I am really grateful again for my job, because growing up I did not make wise choices, and it took me until I was much older to realize that having an education was important. Upon receiving my GED, I enrolled in the local community college. I am hoping to go back to school in the fall for my bachelor’s degree.” MacDonald, who is currently celebrating her wedding engagement to Kevin Brown, shares that family is everything to her. The proud mother of 2 boys and 3 girls shares that her 5 grandchildren are the light of her life. She states, “Being a mom is great, but having the opportunity to be a grandma? Priceless.” She has worked at three different school sites in the district, Bloomington Middle school for 4 years, Bloomington High School for 12, and Grand Terrace High School since it opened a year and a half ago. MacDonald shares, “The best part of my job is the relationships I have developed with students, staff and the community. I believe that the most important part of my job is to try and enhance people’s lives on a daily basis. Only then do I know that I am serving my purpose. And what a blessing it has been to have the opportunity to help make someone’s life a little better.” MacDonald spends a lot of time with her daughter who lives in Grand Terrace when not working. She shares, “I would just like to say that I love working at Grand Terrace High and appreciate all the support that our community gives us. I am very blessed to have the best job around.” GTHS Principal Angela Dischinger shares, “She can multitask like she has 9 hands and four brains all running simultaneously. She is just amazing. Overall, I am so blessed to have Roberta as my right hand; I am a better Principal because of her. GTHS is a better place because of her and her effort.”
