The Colton High School (CHS) Band performed with several former CHS band musicians at the 2nd Annual Alumni Concert held on Thursday, April 11th. The program, which was received by a full house, featured six trumpet players including Andy Fuentes, Christian Ibarra, Carlos Hughes Hernandez, and Arturo Fernandez, along with two alumni Alejandra Quiroz and Thomas Robles, performing "Bugler's Holiday". Band Council President Diana Soto was the hostess for the event. Inspired by the performance, Randall Ceniceros, a Colton Joint Unified School District (CJUSD) School Board of Education Officer, donated his personal trumpet to the CHS Band Department. Other repertoires included "English Folk Suite" by Ralph Vaughn Williams, "Jubilance" by James Swearingen, and "King Cotton" March by John Phillip Sousa. The program closed with a Michael Buble arrangement of "It Had Better Be Tonight". Each of the alumni present took the microphone and shared a little of their story, a song, and where they are attending college or currently working. CHS Assistant Principal, Victor Schiro, an accomplished musician on many instruments, played the euphonium as a special guest at the concert. Schiro was the drum major in the US Army Band for eight years. The annual alumni concerts are open to any CHS alumni who would like to perform and share a memory. If you missed this concert, be sure not to miss the Spring Concert on Wednesday, April 23rd, at 6:30 p.m. in Whitmer Auditorium at Colton High School. The event is open to the public and admission is free.
